Question 1

Also when researching music videos, I noticed that when it comes to representation of the female character attention is paid a lot more to the costumer and accessories. My case studies pointed out the role of dress. In ‘Bleeding Love’ and ‘A thousand Years’ the costumes were elegant and made a fashion statement. I wanted to challenge this stereotype by promotion natural look with no accessories as the focus is the emotions she is going through and having no accessories also exteriorises the sense of emptiness in her life at this stage.

The title of the song ‘Love ain’t been easy’ –straight away suggests how the narrative is going to focus mainly on her emotions and the way to allow the audience to focus on her performance and the narrative was to keep a plain simple look that will make her relatable to the audience. This was a risk, a challenge but I wanted to defy some stereotypes in order to keep her original. Even when it came to hair styles I choose to have her hair down with no style- to keep to the natural look and empathise her persona.

One of the conventions of music videos is to have a range of camera shots to allow the audience to engage with the text. One common camera angle is that of close-ups as seen in the following case study examples.
