Rise of the directors

MTV began listing directors with the artist name and the song credits reflecting that music videos had increasingly become an auteur’s medium. Some examples of directors that were named are Hype Williams, Micheal Gondry, Spike Jonze, Mark Romanek. They all represented the different types of music in the genre. Some of these directors then went on to direct feature films. However this did continue a trend that had begun earlier with directors such as David Fincher.
