I also paid close attention to typography as a variety of fonts are used to send messages. In Christina perri’s digipak, the typewriter font matches with the colour background giving it an antiquated look. While the one in Leona Lewis is a rounded font to soften the image. The Avril Lavigne’s one is italicised creating a very feminine image while the album name is in ‘courier’ font creates a contrast to allow the readers to catch attention of the audience. Notably all 3 digipaks had a picture of the artist domination the front. Bearing these conventions in mind I also used a close-up shot of my artist on the front for identification purposes. To empathises her natural femininity, I used an italised font for her name and used a straight and rounded font for the album name. The decision to vary fonts for different messages on the pack was calculated so that the audience can grab e ach detail about the artist and her music.
The colour scheme of black and white adds to the shabby chic style which is also regarded as fashionable. The way I challenged the convention however was to use a picture where she is looking away from the camera- allows the audience to be intrigued- it is to build enigma. The inside front were pictures of 2 moments from the video , the flower and the broken heart which have been included to create a close link with the video. The colour mixed with black and white –brightens up the inside to appeal to the audience. The final design of the outside back is the use of a photo frame to include all her tracks inside it. This was once again done so that like a photo which captures moments, the songs are meant to leave a lasting impression on the audience and in order to conform to conventions, I included the copyright logo, the barcode, the web address for further promotion and independent record company information
When I analysed posters, I also focused on the kind of institutional information that were being included for the purpose of marketing and promotion. I noticed that name of artist and album name were essential but the release time or date was very important to include and where it can be purchased.
