Question 1

I looked closely at a range of shots and their composition. I noticed how editing equally adds to the sequencing of shots to consolidate meaning. In ‘Bleeding Love’ the close up shot of the artist’s face, hand, mouth all accentuates the narrative I did the same in my video. By focusing on her eyes, I wanted the audience to capture her sadness. The side shot of my artist’s face when she is walking has been carefully composed so that the audience can see from far how lonely and morose she is.

Unlike Lewis’ video I decided to exclude the man from the story to empathises on this idea of loneliness. There is also the notion of her moving on despite the heartbreak represented by the shots where she is trying to turn a new page in her life.

The choice of turning my whole video monochrome was to create this atmosphere of melancholy that one experiences during a heart break- once again this fitted well with the conventions of the genre. The cause for the break is kept away from the audience and this was done on purpose to keep the audience’s attention sustained.

Typical of music videos, the use of special effects can create lots of excitement for the viewers but once my video’s concept is sad and simple- apart from a few cross dissolves and slow motion shots I did not feel it necessary to add to many SFX’s.
