Question 2

Based on my case studies- I observed that it was necessary that there was a sense of continuity to facilitate the audience to identify the artist, the brand, the style and the genre and I attempted to do the same with my main and ancillary tasks.

Since black and white also conveys a chic look, I decided that this colour scheme would complement my artist and her music. Hence this was continued in both ancillary tasks. The video represents my artist as romantic and heart broken. The stereotypical feminine representation is evident as there is focus on her eyes, lips and her emotions of pain and loneliness through a range of camera angles used.

The use of close ups was effective in capturing her emotions and also to establish a link between lyrics and action as one of the conventions of music videos. On all the scenes in the video, the artist is all by herself in outdoor locations, yet isolated. I kept this same idea of loss and isolation on the front cover of the digipak with the artist looking into the water sitting by the bank. The audience cannot capture her facial expressions but can surely grasp immediately that she is feeling morose. Once again the continuous colour scheme of black and white contributes to that idea.
