Question 2

The design of the inside front cover was inspired by the genre and lyrics as well as the music video.  The association of flower to beauty, to being feminine and to represent love worked well with the messages of the song. This clip for example  shows the artist tearing the petals away from the flower as a result of a broken heart  and using the picture of a dropped flower in the inside front cover tallied with the messages in the video and the lyrics.  However to stress of the idea of love and pain, I decided to keep the colour for the rose. The redness could refer to the rawness of  the heart break. The reason I chose a rose can link back to her beauty and fragility as roses are beautiful but are fragile at the same time. I thought that this idea would work well. The rest of the picture being black and white draws an immediate link with the video and corresponds well with the shabby chic style, I attempted to create for her.

The inside back cover also follows the same colour theme of black, white, grey and white, The picture used powerfully sums up the theme of the album and the title track. The cracks can refer back to how she kicks the ground to show her frustration. Equally the scenes when she is lying on the ground looking dejected with close ups of her facial expression, matches very well with the picture chosen for the inside back. The black background makes the white text stand out. The same fonts have been used to create a sense of flow.

To sum up, when planning a promotional campaign, I learnt how vital it is to make well considered and creative decisions which allows the audience to get the same messages and representations of the artist and genre of music so that they are not confused and lose interest – which would result in a failed promotional campaign. Considering that the competition is big in the industry and that promoting an artist is becoming increasingly onerous, I had to make sure that my decisions of productions were given enough thought and reflection.
