Then the next step was to research in order to identify genre and style of the artist.  I used the web once more to carry out research about the artist, the codes and conventions of music videos and print advertising, genre conventions and a whole range of case studies. Sites like MySpace, YouTube, Vimeo and search engines like Google have proved to be really useful. What was really advantageous was the fact that I could watch, pause, rewind, edit and crop a range of music videos in order to analyse a range of features from use of locations to artist persona and at times I even viewed it on slow motion mode to pay closer attention to some finer details.

The internet also allowed me to create a website on WIX.com which allowed me to document my production electronically – all in one place, organised and accessible anywhere as long as I had internet connection. This helped as I didn’t have to carry paper and portfolio physically making the process quicker and more efficient. Also, I became much more confident in handling equipment which was once really dear and only accessible to experts. I used a HD camera, a tripod and a dolly to film the music video. For the print tasks, we were trained on how to use Adobe Photoshop which helped me complete the ancillary tasks smoothly at an acceptable professional standard

For the print task I used photoshop to create a professional look.

I found using such equipment quite easy after having practised several times. It just made me realise how film making and photography are becoming more accessible to all now with the commercial packages being introduced in the market.  Next, I used Adobe Premiere Pro, an editing package which I was already familiar with from last year to create my animatic. This time besides the animatic, I have also used extracts from a range of clips to create a montage reflecting my initial ideas to my music video. This was easier to do as I could use YouTube downloader to download the videos I wanted from YouTube as MP4s, which I edited on Adobe Premiere Pro.
